64th Annual Emmy Awards RED Carpet Re-cap!

This year’s Emmy’s were a little underwhelming. Beautiful dresses graced the red carpet in hues of tangerine, silver/Smokey taupe’s and even turquoise. However there was a common thread of design in most dresses. We saw a lot of chiffon and draping. The California Carpet was covered in Grecian draping, with a hint of seduction in the strategically placed rouged straps.

There were a few break outs from the crowd like Lucy Liu in her metal dress and Sophia Vegara in an all over beaded turquoise gown. Ginnifer Goodwin of “Once Upon a Time” was creatively striking in her tangerine and nude avant guard lace gown. Although Haden Panettiere stepped out the box for this year’s red carpet, the fabric of her gown may have over shadowed her natural beauty.

Men’s Fashion Spring/ Summer 2012

Contrary to what Tom Morgan of SOJO 104.9fm (www.sojo1049.com) may think Affliction T-shirts are no longer in and have evolved. Remove yourself from the bondage of the UFC fighter look and step into a GQ chic man of graphic distinction.

Trends for the summer:

Prints: Hawaiian, tropical, plaid, graphic, paisley

Hot colors: mint green, pale pinks, oceanic blues, (so beautiful you don’t know where the sky and the ocean meet)

Cargo Pant: The return of the cargo pant, slimmer, cleaner and refined. Tapered leg and smaller pockets

Jackets: rain, light weight and 3/4 length, even leather, but lighter with a lot of detail. Safari jacket (place color with this trend to escape that Indian Jones look)

Swim Trunks: mid thigh. Use horizontal stripes for that sportier look. Swim trunks are no longer knee length, shorter dries faster and is better for tanning.

It was a Hollywood Glam Evening. No ballroom gowns here!

While ballroom gives the illusion of Fantasy this Red Carpet was dawned with column silhouettes  symbolizing strength and reality.

3 types of looks graced the red carpet

1) Clean Line: Cameron Diaz, Gwyneth Paltro

2) All over Beads and Sequence: Jennifer Lopez, Octavia Spencer

3) Chiffon and Tulle:

Trends of the Evening

Peplum’s: Michelle Williams, Tina Frey

Baroque style: Sandra Bullock, Jessica Chastain

Long Sleeves: Shailene Woodley, Bernice Bijo

One Shoulder: Mila Jovovich

Color of the Night was White! (Octavia Spencer).  Nudes and Black and Gold were hits, but the white gowns Ruled this year.

Jewelry was the Bare Minimal. NO necklace and diamond drop earrings was the look. This always brings out the natural beauty of the actress as well as the beauty of the dress, which of course is the designers dream.

Starlets of the Evening! Who brought the Heat to the Red Carpet

White Gowns all the way!!!

Jennifer Lopez  was a top pick in a magnificent Zuhair Murad gown, extremely figure flattering and curvaceous. She looked like a star shooting across the sky.

Rooney Mara is the perfect mixture of edgy and demure. She wore a Givenchy, spider web lace overlaid gown with a structured low “V”  sweat-heart bodice.  Her blunt bang, dark hair and red lipstick was the perfect edge to this soft beauty. Bare accessories brought out the elegance of the design.

Gwyneth Paltro was a Simplified Beauty in a Tom Ford’s clean silhouette white knit gown. Pleated bodice and an impeccable tailored cape was striking elegance on last night’s red carpet.

Octavia Spencer wore a Tadashi Shoji white all over beaded gown. It was short-sleeved, and cinched in the waist, perfect for her body type and curves.

2012 Golden Globe Red Carpet Recap

Trends of the Evening:

Nudes and blush tones monopolized the red carpet. (Charlize Theron, Kate Beckinsale, Heidi Klum). However the red carpet was not totally devoid of color, Emerald Greens, Saphire blues and plums made their statement on Frieda Pinto,Sophia Vegara,Michelle Williams.

Best Dressed:

Claire Danes: two toned J. Mendell dress, sleek, clean lined reminiscent of a projector film appropriate for this event.

Angelina Jolie: One Shouldered, asymmetric fold-over collar revealing a stunning scarlet red against the off white gown. It was expertly fitted, rouged waist with high split by Altier Versace.

Charlize Theron: Plunging “V” neckline in a nude chiffon by Dior Couture. Voluminous bow at waist and 1920’s style rhinestone headband. Charlize Theron does subtle beauty so well.

Dianna Agron: Beautiful laser cut swan gown with intricate and refined detail that turns this fire dress into a clean lined soft elegant work of art.

Surprise Stunner: Morina Baccarine of “Homeland” and “V”. She WOWed in this black sheer front cut out of strappy and beaded panels.

Didn’t Quite get it!:  Lea Michelle was miss for me. The look was to heavy for her. The smokey eye and the illusion front reminded me of a pageant dress.

63rd Annual Red Carpet Recap

Trends of the Evening

Red was a all a blaze

Some of the celeb’s gracing the runway in their red hot frocks were Lea Michelle, Kate Winslet, Sofia Vergara, and  Nina Dobrev in a VA  Va VOOM mermaid style dress by Donna Karan.

Color Pop

When the carpet wasn’t filled by scarlets,  and nude colors, it was the Pops of Blue’s that really stood out. Cobie Smulder wore a Grecian style aqua marine blue gown, Kati Holmes in a cerulean blue Calvin Klein halter dress, and Amy Poehler in a sleek, liquid, sapphire blue dress with sapphire drop earrings.

Up do’s

Up do’s was the look of the evening. Bangs were side swept with a hint of finger waves reminiscent of the 1920’s. This look adorned by Evan Rachel Wood of HBO’s Mildred Pierce.

Bare Necks.

The celebs went minimalist in the jewelry department last night. Even though the necks were bare, a few celebrities made up for it on their lobs.  Sophia Vergara wore a magnificent pair of Columbian Emerald earrings in a peacock feather design.

One Shoulder

Maybe Next time. (Who had communication problems with their designer)

Gwyneth Paltro wore a 2 pc crop top with her midriff exposed as if she was at a  junior high dance in Bali. Not only was her midriff revealed, but the entire dress was sheer in all the places that would make a man turn “Glee”ful. If this was a whole dress instead of 2pcs, it would have been beautiful.  Just do something with the poker straight surfer girl hair and everything would be Emmy perfect.

Spot on (who got it right)

Sophia Vergara wore a scarlet red one shoulder chiffon dress in a fish tail design. Soft, immaculate fit, curvaceous and bold.

Evan Rachel Wood was  picture of grace in an all-over sequence cap sleeve gown, by Ellie Saub.

Kate Winslet’s look was clean, fresh, and joyful overlayed with elegance, perfectly combined like only Calvin Klein can do. Add a smokey eye, keyhole neckline, and great styled hair, to set the tone for a winning night.

Weird

Sarah Hyland, the older sister on Modern Family, the one who climbs out windows to be with her boyfriend, wore a beautiful coral,  youthful, age appropriate dress while Ariel Winter, age 13 who plays the younger, conservative, cautious sister on Modern family wore the most , cleavage revealing,  mature, in-appropriate dress for a young girl.
